Brexit: Cargo Restrictions Will Go Into Effect From January 2022

The UK's exit from the EU has led to a shift in trade relations, redefining them in consideration of the UK's new role as a full-fledged third country.

The Brexit phenomenon took shape gradually and was facilitated by a path marked mainly in three phases: 1 January - 1 April - 1 July.

Precisely with regard to this last phase - which should have been reached on 1 July 2021 - the full implementation of the new customs controls on imports of goods from the EU was expected.

Recently, however, the UK government decided to postpone the last "Brexit phase" to January 2022 , by which time imports into the UK do not require a customs declaration.

In particular, customs documentation can be submitted at a later time, with the advantage of reducing waiting times at British customs.

The trader must keep track of the import operations carried out and the complete customs declaration must be submitted to UK customs within six months of import.

The system of deferred customs declaration therefore allows companies to adapt to the changes introduced by Brexit and to minimize the economic impact.
