Change in the English Customs Computer System

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), the UK tax authority, is replacing the IT platform currently used for customs clearance, called CHIEF (Customs Handling of Import and EXport.

As of 1 October 2022, all imports into the UK will have to be processed under the new system.

What does this change mean for exports to the UK?

To the data that are currently exposed in the export invoices (Bre Vad Vademecum / DB Group) is added the need to give indications about the nature of the transaction, which defines, in fact, the type of transaction carried out (e.g. sale, gifts, returns, etc.).

In the event that you proceed with a sales invoice, you will not have to provide us with any further communication, as the transaction nature will be acquired independently, falling within the “type” case history treated.

In the event that you need to manage other types of operations, such as free transfers, replacements, temporary, and other operations other than the sale for consideration, you will have to give explicit evidence when sending documents to the operating department.

What about importing into the UK?

The importing party must register by October 1st with the CDS to continue to have their imports declared.

A detailed guide to register is available at the following link: LINK

We therefore advise you to make sure that your importers have registered with the new platform, in order not to cause delays to your shipments.

Adjustment of the export part is scheduled for April 1, 2023
